🏡 The property
What is Sol du Mazel?
Sol du Mazel is a single property comprising two interconnected stone gîtes — Rose Barn and Hope Cottage — near Saint-Pompont in the Périgord Noir, Dordogne. Together they sleep up to 10 guests across five bedrooms. The property includes a heated private pool (12×5m), four acres of grounds, and sits 20 minutes from Sarlat.
How many people does Sol du Mazel sleep?
Up to 10 guests across five bedrooms — three in Rose Barn (one double, one twin, one bunk room sleeping four) and two in Hope Cottage (one double, one twin). Additional travel cots are available for babies alongside the double bedrooms.
Can grandparents and grandchildren share the property comfortably?
Yes — Sol du Mazel is designed specifically for multi-generational groups. Rose Barn and Hope Cottage each have their own full kitchen, living area and bedrooms, with a connecting door between them. Many groups put grandparents in the quieter Hope Cottage while parents and children take Rose Barn. Ground-floor bedrooms are available in both gîtes.
Can you book just one gîte rather than the whole property?
In July and August, Sol du Mazel is let as a single property only — both gîtes together. Outside July and August, Rose Barn and Hope Cottage are also available individually for a single group. Please
enquire directly for shoulder season individual gîte availability and pricing.
Are pets allowed?
Pets are not generally permitted. If you have a specific requirement, please enquire directly — exceptions may occasionally be considered outside peak season.
Is there WiFi?
Yes. There is 8Gb WiFi throughout both gîtes, suitable for streaming and working remotely.
Is there a TV?
Yes — large flat-screen TVs in both gîtes with UK satellite channels. There is also a wood-burning stove in Hope Cottage for cooler evenings in spring and autumn.
🏊 Pool & grounds
Is the pool heated?
Yes. The pool is heated to 28°C throughout the season, which runs from May through the end of September.
Is the pool fenced and safe for young children?
Yes. There is a full perimeter fence with a self-closing, child-proof gate meeting French pool safety regulations. The pool also has a Roman shallow end — stepped entry with a gradual slope — which is safe for young children and suitable for teaching. The deep end reaches 1.8 metres.
What size is the pool?
The pool is 12 metres by 5 metres, south-facing, in full sun from morning to early evening. Large enough for a group of 10 to use simultaneously without crowding.
What outdoor facilities are there?
The grounds extend to four acres and include: the heated pool with sun loungers and shaded pergola with hammocks; the abri dining terrace with outdoor table seating 10 and a gas BBQ; a play fort with three towers, two slides and a rope bridge; a full-size Cornilleau table tennis table; a toddler area with sandpit, swings and seesaw; a gazebo in the meadow; and a walnut orchard and wildflower meadow.
👶 Babies & young children
What baby and toddler equipment is provided?
Sol du Mazel provides: two travel cots, two high chairs, two stair gates, a baby monitor, a baby bath, a buggy for loan, and a children's outdoor table and chairs. Children's crockery and cutlery are provided in both kitchens.
Is Sol du Mazel suitable for babies and toddlers under three?
Yes. The property is specifically designed for families with very young children. The pool is fenced with a child-proof gate. The stair gate allows the kitchen and living area to be separated from the staircase. Travel cots, high chairs, baby bath and baby monitor are all provided.
Is the bunk bedroom safe?
The bunk room in Rose Barn has two full-size sets of bunk beds — four berths in total. They are purpose-built, adult-sized and safe for older children. We recommend the top bunks for children seven and above. Young children should use the lower berths.
