Saint-Pompont · Périgord Noir · Dordogne
Rose Barn and Hope Cottage — five bedrooms, heated pool, four acres of countryside. Twenty minutes from Sarlat.
Exclusive use
Sol du Mazel is a single stone building housing two interconnected gîtes in the Périgord Noir. When you book, you take all of it — five bedrooms, both kitchens, both living areas, the pool, the grounds. No neighbours sharing the space. No strangers using the pool.
Rose Barn and Hope Cottage are two distinct characters under one roof, connected by a single door. Many groups put grandparents in one, parents and children in the other. Some use both kitchens and both living rooms simultaneously. The arrangement suits large groups that want to share a holiday but keep some independence.
In July and August, Sol du Mazel is always let as a whole. Outside peak season, the gîtes are also available individually for a single group.

The grounds extend well beyond the pool terrace. A walnut orchard and wildflower meadow make up most of the four acres. A gazebo sits at the far end — far enough from the pool that it is possible to read a book in peace. Lavender grows along the terrace. The old path to Saint-Pompont starts at the gate.
The play fort took two builders three weeks to put up. Three towers, battlements, two slides, a rope bridge and a climbing wall. There is also a full-size Cornilleau table tennis table under the abri — the most contested fixture of any group stay.

"The outside space is AMAZING — so much fun to be had. Hours and hours of outdoor fun for all the family. The pool another dimension again. We did not want to leave."
Guest review — Sol du Mazel
"Sol du Mazel is a paradise for play. With exclusive use of the two gîtes, the pool and four acres of meadow, you hardly need to leave the grounds — though the Dordogne beyond the gate is magnificent."

Périgord Noir
Medieval castles, prehistoric caves, one of France's great markets, and a river you can canoe through all of it.

The Dordogne
Sol du Mazel sits in the Périgord Noir — the part of the Dordogne centred on Sarlat. The Saturday market fills the medieval town with foie gras, walnut wine and Périgord cheese. Medieval castles line the cliffs above the river. The prehistoric caves of the Vézère Valley — including Font-de-Gaume, one of the last original painted caves open to visitors — are an hour's drive.
Most things are morning trips. You're back at the property by early afternoon. The pool takes it from there.
